I recently had the joy of photographing the Harris family as part of an In-Home Family Photo Session. This precious Birmingham family needed updated pictures for their adoption profile book. They wanted something that showed their day to day life. They choose an in-home session because it was a place they were most comfortable and was such a huge piece of who they are. We moved throughout the house to capture their most lived-in spaces- from their bedrooms to the living room to even the kitchen. The variety provided a great variation of images, but also a way to remember the season long after they move on.
I loved getting to spend time with Tori and Tanner. They shared the ups and downs of their adoption process with such honesty and vulnerability. Their continual trust in God’s plan for their family was such an obvious source of support and peace. It was a huge encouragement to me and was an amazing reminder of God’s faithfulness to us. My favorite part was seeing their life and getting to know them in a way that could only come with spending time in their home.
Why have your family photo session in your home?
I love the simplicity of these images. They also show off their personality and joy! These pictures showed B’s life as a 4 year old. They gave him a chance to play (and feature!) his favorite things. As a mom, I know that’s something that will be treasured for long after the toys have been put away. In-home family photo sessions are one of my favorites because there is a level of comfort that no other location can provide. This is especially great for the kids during the photo session. It gives the child a chance to show me around and introduce me to their spaces. This helps them to get comfortable with me and lets them be ready when the photography actually begins.
